How to Use the Pickleball Scorekeeper

Choose singles or doubles, select the scoring format and game target, optionally enter names, and choose the starting service. During play, tap the side that wins the rally. The scorekeeper keeps the serving state, score call, game history and match progress together so you can stay focused on the match.

Standard scoring

Only the serving side scores. In singles, a lost rally creates a side out. In doubles, the first-server exception and first/second-server sequence are tracked automatically.

2026 provisional rally scoring

The side that wins each rally receives the point. In doubles, one server serves for the service rotation and the serving court is tracked from the team score.

Win by two

Reaching the target is not enough when the scores are within one point. The game continues until a side leads by at least two points.

How Pickleball Scoring Works

Standard side-out scoring awards a point when the serving side wins the rally. Provisional rally scoring awards a point to the side that wins every rally. For the formats offered here, games use a win-by-two finish.

Singles vs Doubles Scoring

Singles uses the server’s score to determine the serving court: even scores serve from the right and odd scores from the left. In standard doubles, the score call uses three numbers: serving team’s score, receiving team’s score, then server 1 or 2 for the current service turn. That server number resets after each side out; it is not a permanent player number. At the start of a standard doubles game, the starting server is called server 2 for the first service turn.

Standard vs Rally Scoring

The scorekeeper keeps the two formats separate. Standard scoring awards points only to the serving side when it wins a rally. The 2026 provisional rally-scoring option awards a point on every rally and uses one server per doubles service rotation.

Pickleball Match Formats

Standard scoring supports one game to 11, 15 or 21, plus best 2 of 3 or best 3 of 5 to 11. The provisional rally-scoring options offered here support one game, best 2 of 3 or best 3 of 5, with 11, 15 or 21-point games. All formats offered by this tool are win by two.

End Changes During a Game

For a single game or the tie-breaker game of a multi-game match, ends change when the first side reaches 6 points in an 11-point game, 8 points in a 15-point game, or 11 points in a 21-point game. The same server continues after the end-change break.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the scorekeeper for singles and doubles?

Yes. Choose Singles or Doubles in Match Setup. Doubles also tracks the active server and the standard first/second-server sequence.

What is standard side-out scoring?

In standard scoring, the serving side earns the point when it wins the rally. Losing a rally eventually produces a side out and moves service to the other side.

What is the 2026 provisional rally-scoring option?

It is a provisional scoring option in the 2026 USA Pickleball rules. The winner of each rally earns a point. This tool labels the option as provisional and keeps its doubles one-server service rotation separate from standard scoring.

Can I play to 11, 15 or 21 points?

Yes. The available targets depend on the selected scoring and match format. Standard best-of-3 and best-of-5 matches in this tool use 11-point games; one-game standard matches and the offered rally-scoring formats can use 11, 15 or 21.

Does the game always have to be won by two?

Yes for the formats offered here. If the target is reached with only a one-point lead, scoring continues until the winning side leads by two.

What happens in a best-of-3 or best-of-5 match?

The tool records each completed game and advances only when you choose Start Next Game. A best-of-3 ends after one side wins two games; a best-of-5 ends after one side wins three.

Will my score survive a browser refresh?

The tool saves the current match locally in your browser when storage is available. A refresh can restore a valid saved match. It does not provide cloud sync or an account-based history.

Can I undo the last point?

Yes. Undo restores the state immediately before the last scoring action. Reset Current Game and New Match use confirmation dialogs so destructive actions are harder to trigger accidentally.

What do the three numbers mean in doubles?

They are the serving team’s score, the receiving team’s score, and the server number for the current service turn. Server 1 or 2 does not permanently identify one player; it resets when a team regains service after a side out.

What if I am unsure whether a rally was a fault?

Use the Pickleball Rule & Fault Checker for rule-focused scenario help. The Scorekeeper is for tracking the score; it does not decide whether a specific rally was a fault.

Is this official USA Pickleball software?

No. PlaySmashZone is an independent website. The scoring behavior is designed around the 2026 USA Pickleball Official Rulebook and is not presented as official USA Pickleball software or an official USA Pickleball product.
